“Charlie’s” delivered to NHS workers
During the pandemic, Sakoon set up Sakoon in the Community, supporting residents with shopping, grocery drops, prescription collections with donations from the community. Their volunteers were also been able to support Wexham Park Hospital and Royal Berkshire Hospital with essential food and products.
A phone line for cancer patients, was also set up for those going through treatment during this difficult time.
Sam Hussain, One Slough Volunteer and co-founder of Sakoon volunteered as a befriender with one resident. She said, “I’m really pleased that after months of chatting on the phone, we were able to meet today sitting 2m apart in open space. Through our wellbeing chats we have learnt so much together.”
Sam also founded Knit Your Socks Off, a knitting group, four years ago along with Sbba Siddique. The group have recently been making knitted and crocheted dolls, “Charlie’s” to thank the doctors and nurses at Wexham Park Hospital for their incredible work during the pandemic.
Suzanne Veltri, senior Sister Wexham Park Hospital A&E Department, said: “Wexham Park would like to thank the Knit Your Socks Off Team for your kind donations of knitted Charlie’s. We are all overwhelmed by our community’s love and kind generosity during this challenging time and we will be eternally grateful.”
